Dr. Rick Murowinski has been the ALMA Project Engineer based in Santiago since 2004. Rick comes to ALMA from a background including ground based optical and infrared instrumentation, as well as detector design and system engineering roles in space programs including UVIT, FUSE and early work on JWST. If you look even further into the dim recesses of his past you will find a fascinating period of mm-wave SIS mixer design and fabrication, and also a stretch of time working at the Algonquin Radio Telescope.

While keeping up with ALMA in its current phase is a somewhat intense activity consuming all available work hours, Rick still has hopes of one day returning to his earlier research interests. Those interests include galaxy evolution in the early universe, and particularly, detector physics.
