Dr. Richard Prestage was appointed Head of the Department of Technical Services of ALMA in June, 2008. Dr. Prestage has extensive management experience in the operation of large national astronomy facilities. Prior to transferring to ALMA, Dr. Prestage joined NRAO in 1999. In 2000 he moved to Green Bank, where he had various technical and management responsibilities, including the position of Site Director from June 2005 until his departure in May 2008. Dr. Prestage was previously Telescope Manager for the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope in Hawaii. Dr. Prestage holds a Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. His technical interests are in the areas of telescope performance, control and commissioning, and he has presented a number of papers at international conferences on various aspects of telescope operations.
