Javier Marti-Canales: Lead System Engineer

Dr. Javier Marti-Canales joined the ALMA project in June 2009 as the Lead System Engineer for the Joint ALMA Observatory. Before joining ALMA, Dr. Marti-Canales worked 15 years at the European Space Agency (ESA) in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, where he served as Leader of System Engineering for Solar Orbiter, as Planck Instrument Manager, as Head of the Technical Evaluation Unit, and as Antenna & Millimeter-wave Components Engineer. He has broad experience in managing projects of high technical complexity and cultural diversity. He obtained a Ph.D. (Cum Laude) in Time Domain Antenna Measurements at the Technical University of Delft in The Netherlands. He remains active in antenna testing research and holds two patents, one on passive radiometry and another on antenna holography. His main research interests are time domain and millimeter wave testing and instrumentation.
