Science and tourism observatories from throughout Chile, along with universities that offer degree programs in astronomy and physics, gathered in La Serena on Saturday, January 12 for AstroDay, a free event that was open to the public.

The ALMA stand at Astroday, which was held at the Extension Center of the University of La Serena, was visited by around 2,000 people.

"It was interesting and the ALMA project caught my attention because I had never heard of it. I was able to learn more about this subject," said Paz Morales, a tourist from Santiago"I'm passionate about this. I find it wonderful and they should do this everywhere, in all cities," said Ricardo Moreno, adding that "there is very little knowledge and this helps people learn. We have few scientists in Chile and this event stimulates curiosity and interest."

The various astronomical observatories in the country shared their knowledge, research and projects with visitors. In addition to the 17 participating organizations, there was a mobile planetarium and a presentation on microgravity flights, open to local families and tourists alike.
