ALMA to open its doors in Santiago for Astronomy Day in Chile

As part of Astronomy Day events, the ALMA Observatory will open its Santiago offices to the public next Friday, March 20, with activities for students and the general public.
In conjunction with the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the Municipality of Vitacura, students from public schools in the district have been invited to observe the Sun through telescopes, watch videos projected in a mobile planetarium, and attend a lecture on astronomy and ALMA.
In the afternoon there will be activities for the community, with free functions at the mobile planetarium and a talk by ALMA astronomer José Gallardo, who will connect with his colleague Gianni Marconi from the observatory located in northern Chile.

The Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), an international astronomy facility, is a partnership of the European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere (ESO), the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS) of Japan in cooperation with the Republic of Chile.
