In a remote corner of the Chilean Andes on March 13, 2013, ALMA, the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array was inaugurated during an official ceremony. This event marks the end of the installation of all primary systems of the giant telescope and the formal transition of a project in construction to a totally equipped observatory. ALMA is an association between Europe, North America and East Asia, in cooperation with the Republic of Chile. As part of this ceremony, former president of Chile Sebastián Piñera as guest of honor, Thijs de Graauw former Director of ALMA and ministers of states from that time visit ALMA.
