Álvaro González

Deputy Director for Development

Alvaro received his PhD in Physics from University of Tokyo in 2014, MSc in Electrical Engineering from Caltech in 2009, MSc in Space Studies from International Space University in 2006, and Ingeniería de Telecomunicación from Polytechnic University of Valencia in 2005. Before joining the JAO in January 2024, he worked 14 years for ALMA at NAOJ. Alvaro contributed to the technical development and production of the ALMA band 10 receiver, and to the development of other heterodyne receivers and instrumentation for radio astronomy, before taking positions of increasing responsibility related to Development. From September 2018 to December 2023, he served as East Asia Program Manager and a member of the ALMA Management Team. Before his involvement with ALMA, he was a Graduate Trainee at ESA (206-2008), JAXA (2006) and Alcatel Alenia Space (2005).

Alvaro received the Spanish “Premio Nacional de Fin de Carrera Universitaria” in 2006, the Fulbright Science and Technology award in 2008, the IEEE RADIO 2017 Young Scientist Award in 2017, and the 8th NINS Young Researcher Award in 2019, among others.
