Catalina Margulis joined the ALMA Project on March 1, 2023, assuming the position of Corporate Secretary of the Joint ALMA Observatory. Catalina is a lawyer from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where she graduated with maximum distinction summa cum laude,holds a Diploma in Public Economic Law from Universidad de Chile and a Master of Laws degree from Harvard Law School.

Before joining ALMA, Catalina worked for the Legal Department of the International Monetary Fund, focusing her practice on assessing and providing technical advice to central banks around the world on governance, mandate, autonomy, and transparency and accountability related matters. In that capacity, she engaged with local authorities from different countries and participated in the drafting of legislation to strengthen the autonomy of various central banks. Prior to that, Catalina was part of the Legal Department of the Central Bank of Chile, where she specialized in monetary policy and financial stability related matters.
