B-roll - Safety First

Worker safety at ALMA is paramount. For this reason, different activities at the observatory are regulated and supervised. For example, portable oxygen tanks are given to all workers who ascend to the Chajnantor Plateau -at 5000 meters altitude-, and these must be carried with them at all times. Alcohol tests are constantly administered, and both drivers and vehicles must be certified by ALMA as fit for the altitude at the operations facilities. There are also two polyclinics, one at the antenna level (AOS) and one at the camp level (OSF), both equipped for emergencies.
